National Women's Day is a South African public holiday celebrated
annually on the 9th of August. The significance of this holiday is
to draw attention to the issues and social challenges faced by women on a daily
basis.
These issues include domestic violence, femicides, sexual harassment, sexual
assault, female education and etc, many South
Africa women have dedicated this day to help increase understanding and protest
against these inhumane despicable acts against women.
On this year’s women’s day I had the honor of being invited to
attend the Tswelopele Ka Thuto Women's Day High Tea Event hosted by Nthabiseng Mokhothu the founder of
Tswelopele Ka Thuto, a non-profit organization with the aim and vision of moving young people forward with education
through career guidance, mentorship
programs and charity.
The purpose of the high tea was to collect donations in a form of matric dance dresses,
shoes and accessories to assist underprivileged matric female students with their matric farewells.
The event managed to successfully to collect 20+ dresses, shoes and
accessories, the handover of these dresses will be done in September till November at the following schools:
1. DIEPSLOOT Combined School.
2. Alexander High.
3. Oziel Selele Comprehensive school.
4. Mamellang Thuto secondary school.
This
event is proof that incredible things happen when women unite in support of each other for a good cause.
