Their smile soothes me like the silent melody of the morning sun because it’s so peaceful and every silent moment reminds me of them.
Their faces speak with so much truth, their eyes glimmer with eagerness and their laughter screams silently with life, love and innocence.
My grade 6 learners from Shadrack Mbambo Primary School are the most vibrant, articulate and intelligent young minds who never cease to amaze me.
My job is to tutor them and show them the way but they themselves have had a lot to teach me in return.
As we mature we forget the smallest things that make life worth living, we never really make the most of each day, and sometimes we even forget to laugh and to be thankful to be alive.
Working with these learners has taught so much about myself, I’ve learnt to smile a little even when there’s nothing for me to smile about, I’ve learnt that life is not as bad as it seems especially when you are surrounded by people who see beyond your empty stomach, your torn shoes, your untidiness and a lot of the times your silliness but people who see your potential and your greatness.
I’ve come not to judge each day by the harvest I reap but by the seed I plant in each and every one of those learners whose lives I touch and my joy will surely come the day i see them flourish into the beautiful flowers i know they are.
They remind me of the beauty of simplicity.they remind me of ME!
